Public Access Computers

Welcome to the North Adams Public Library Information Systems Page for Public Computing.

The public computer lab is available to all patrons during regular library hours, closing 10 minutes before the official library closing time. All public computers must be checked out at the circulation desk, where a computer pass will be assigned. Each pass coincides with a particular computer in the lab. Each checked out pass is good for 1 hour.

For use of the computers, the user must agree to and accept the Library’s Internet/Computer Use Policy which appears upon viewing the first screen. Upon acceptance, the computer is available for use. If the user does not accept the policy, he or she must return the computer pass to the circulation desk. Users must respect the privacy of the other users in the lab.

On Wednesdays between 1 and 2 p.m., a staff member will offer free computer training sessions. Please call our Reference Department ahead of time if you plan to attend. The number is 662-3133.

In the temporary lab there are 5 computers capable of the following:

o Internet Access – via Internet Explorer
o Microsoft Office Suite
o Microsoft Word – Word processing/document creation
o Microsoft Excel – Spreadsheet creation
o Microsoft Access – Database
o Microsoft Photoshop – Photo editor
o Microsoft Encarta – Reference information
o Microsoft Trips – Driving directions
o Microsoft FrontPage – Web page development
o Magic School bus for the kids

Computer help is available during normal operating hours. Individual computer help sessions are held on Wednesdays from 1pm – 2pm.
